Ooh! Tell me about Ron Weasley.

Quite a challenging one really.

Do you love/hate/don’t feel strongly about this character?
I feel quite positively, about Ron. Definitely closer to love that hate. Or love to neutrality. And most definitely more than is expressed by a lot of the fandom I’ve seen.

What’s your favourite trait of this character?
His fallibility. This is not admirable in him as a person but it is my favourite trait that makes him an interesting character. And really who cannot sympathise with him when he’s tired of playing second fiddle to Harry? Or is worried about his family, or is finding a neverending quest for objects they know nothing about difficult.

The thing is, though he fallible, his bravery and loyalty to his friends always comes through in the end and he’s capable of immense bravery and self sacrifice as seen at the end of the first and third books. I often feel sad, that Ron never got more moments to really shine in later books.

And that makes him more interesting than characters that never really grow or change and mostly seem to succeed. (Hello, Hermione)


What’s your favourite moment/event involving this character?

Thinking about it: I’m a sucker for nervous, self-doubting people succeeding and getting recognition and find self worth and all that. So maybe that final rendition of “Weasley Is Our King” as sung by the Gryffindors.

If you could have one power/attribute/etc. of this character, what would it be?
Would it be cheap to say the ability to use magic? Because duh.

Otherwise the aforementioned ability for great bravery.

Have you ever pictured this character naked?
Well I’ve not just pictured him nude, pin-up style for the picture of it. But I have written sex scenes for him, which by necessity does include a certain amount of mental imaging.

When did you fall in love/hate with this character? I you don’t have any strong feelings toward them, why not?
I don’t think I could pin down a real singular moment and would just like the point to the whole series please.

What’s your OTP for this character?
I don’t think I get attached to OTPs really so I think I will have to be boring canon with this one and say Hermione. But I’ve also read cool/interesting stories with him paired with Pansy or Susan

Yes to Ron's fallibility! That's what makes him one of the most endearing characters to me.

His loyalty is my favorite. In seven years, he only turns his back on Harry twice, and both of those times, I can fully empathize with him. And both times he comes back stronger and more loyal than ever. There are plenty of other times throughout the series when I probably would have told Harry to go screw himself, but Ron patiently sticks by him. Even though being Harry's best friend means he'll never get the glory he's always craved. In fact, when he does finally get some recognition (making Prefect, for example), he actually plays it down for Harry's sake. OMG I LOVE HIM SO MUCH.

Gotta agree with you on that final rendition of "Weasley Is Our King". Although the scene where he destroys the locket is not too shabby.

Ron/Pansy is always fun. :D

I can't remember being too impressed with the locket scene in the book. It just sort of dragged out a bit too long with the hesitation bit before the sword comes down. I remember liking actually liking the film version a lot though. And not just for topless Hermione make outs. It was the addition of the scuttering spiders and stuff that made me go, woa! the locket is really trying the scare the shit outta him now.

Pansy with just about anyone is fun :D

Neville Longbottom!

Do you love/hate/don’t feel strongly about this character?

What’s your favourite trait of this character?
Again its not a positive trait in him as a person, but his utter lack of confidence and bumbling in the earlier books is very endearing towards him as a character in the book. The poor guy basically gets the shit end of every stick. But unlike poor Ron, Neville gets the development and at the end of DH all the heroic moments you could wish for.

What’s your favourite moment/event involving this character?
That moment when McGongallel tells him that his grandmother should appreciate him for who he is not who she thinks he should be. And that he more than proved himself at the ministry.

If you could have one power/attribute/etc. of this character, what would it be?
ability to use a sword to kill giant snakes maybe? OR his DH willingness to take a stand.

Have you ever pictured this character naked?
Can’t say that I have.

When did you fall in love/hate with this character? I you don’t have any strong feelings toward them, why not?
Him taking a stand against the golden trio at the end of philospher’s stone if not before.

What’s your OTP for this character?
I should have ditched this question, lol. I have no real preference for Neville, though I have read him most often with Lavender. I think writing him with unrequited love towards Ginny or Hermione is a really cool story as well.

And tbf the film did Neville/Luna OK, even if it feels like ‘pair the spairs’.

Draco Malfoy

Do you love/hate/don’t feel strongly about this character?
I hate Draco Malfoy. I’ve been hesitant to be strong with the others bt no, I hate this guy. He’s a conniving worthless little shit. Sure the narrative starts to take steps to make him more sympathetic but it never goes so far as to redeem him; he doesn’t ever admit he’s wrong or renounce his bigoted views and in the final battle he’s fighting for Voldemort, however ineffectually.


What’s your favourite trait of this character?
To go with the others, what makes him a good antagonist is his complete bastardry and he does have a good ability to read other people and find nerves t pick on and drive them crazy. So that, I guess.

What’s your favourite moment/event involving this character?


If you could have one power/attribute/etc. of this character, what would it be?
His riches maybe. His ability to dodge consequences.

Have you ever pictured this character naked?
oh hell no.


When did you fall in love/hate with this character? I you don’t have any strong feelings toward them, why not?
Like Ron, this hatred of his character is built up over all the books. I mean he starts doing stuff that makes you hate him from his first scene onwards. But if I had to pick a moment. I believe there’s that time he’s trying to get a rise out of Harry by saying he’s staying at Hogwarts over Christmas because he has no real family. From a guy whp’s only worth is in his family name, that’s pretty galling.

What’s your OTP for this character?
I should have deleted this question. Well I have written Draco/Rose and Draco/Pansy scenes but I don’t really have a OTP for Draco.

Let's see...
First year he got sent into the Forest as punishment.
Second year his father publicly reamed him out over a humiliating Quidditch loss.
Third year he got bitch slapped by both a hippogriff and a Muggleborn girl.
Fourth year he got turned into a bouncing ferret.
Fifth year his dad got sent to jail.
Sixth year and seventh year he lived under the constant threat of pain and death.

And even when he wins, someone comes along and snatches the prize out of his hand and gives it to Harry Potter.

Yep, he does a great job of dodging consequences.

I don't remember Lucius reaming him out of quiddtich. Just for not being as good at school as Hermione. And then he bought him a broom and got him on slytherin quidditch team.

And his dad being sent to jail is more Lucius failing to dodge consequences than it being a consequence of Draco's action.

I was mainly thinking of him appearing hale and hearty in the epilogue with a wife and kid. But given the time jump i guess he could have spent years in azkaban after DH.

but you're right, I couldn't think of any abilities of his I wanted to have.

I like to think he wouldn't spend years in Azkaban. I like to think Draco deserves a chance at happiness. I'm not excusing his behavior. But there's being a nasty little shit, and then there's being forced into a life of crime against your will at the age of 16. And I don't believe Harry would have had him sent to Azkaban.

Of course, he's still a nasty little shit in my favorite Draco fics. That's what I like about him.

I definitely read mostly H/D stories but I'd like to think I read ones where the past has been acknowledged and Draco redeemed. He acted like a shit, yes, but his actions were done for legitimate reasons i.e. Sixth year and seventh year he lived under the constant threat of pain and death.

But I enjoyed reading your thoughts on him.

I'd skimmed through you journal a bit and saw all the H/D and thought 'oh dear this isn't going to go down well'

But I mean I can see fanfic redeeming Draco, and I can see it happening, I guess. But it would be a long slog for him and it definitely did not happen in the actual books.

Yeah, I really like Jon as a character and as a person.


What’s your favourite trait of this character?
His loyalty and the way he always tries to what’s right even when he has no idea what the right path is.

I’ve mentioned on the journal before the way Jon’s priorities seem to is eerily similar to the Tully’s words; Family, Duty, Honour. Jon sacrifices his honour for duty when he joins the wildlings and we see in GoT and aDwD that family comes before anything for him.

What’s your favourite moment/event involving this character?
Hard to pick just one. Most of his interactions with Donal Noye or Maester Aemon are very good scenes and the ones with Ygritte. Jon in command of the wall fighting off the entire wilding horde is pretty much his peak though.


If you could have one power/attribute/etc. of this character, what would it be?

not really. But I have written porn of him. So as part of that, sure.

Probably one of those conversations he has with Tyrion early in Game Of Thrones
