Fests, Fests, Fests

I already mentioned interhouse_fest in a post but I've also seen notifications for mini_fest and smutty_claus , which will be running this year. Now we've hit augusts it's time for everyone to start thinking about late-autumn and winter fests, obviously. :D

Definitly looking to sign up to Smutty Claus again, I'm just worried numbers of participants are going to keep dropping. So I'm boosting it now and will probably boost it again come sign ups. Even though I'm sure most people on my list know about it.

If you don't: it's a really fun Harry Potter exchange fest for het pairings that posts around Christmas. Aside from being it having to be het and rated R or NC-17 for smut there are no limitations on pairing, kinks, themes etc.

I've found it enjoyable, I've got great fics written for me from it and I feel it gets good work out of me as well. Particular the first fic I wrote for it. Substitute My Coke For Gin.

I'm just going to have to look up my form last year and try and re-write it. I like to do a new one for each year rather than reusing it.

The first half of the year was sort of a disappointment for me. The fests I was so excited about (with the exception of charlieficathon) didn't have prompts that inspired me, and I had to drop out of a fest I'd committed to for the first time. :(

I'm cautiously optimistic about smutty_claus. I've never participated before, and I really don't do well with exchange fests.

Hopefully, when I get this sudden and unexpected move accomplished, my energy and creativity will return.

I'm sorry to hear its not been going so well! I do understand why exchange fests can be difficult. I tend to inevitably get a prompt form, that I'd never expected to get and it can be a real challenge to fill them.

On the other hand some times forms prompt you to try new things that you hadn't considered before and write better fics than you thought you could. So there's that.

I hope you're move goes well, and you find something inspiring soon. :)

Eh, the prompts I get aren't the problem. Mostly I find them an exciting challenge, a way to stretch myself as a writer. It's coming up with a prompt that's my problem.

I like lots of fics. So long as they're well written. But you can't put that on a form...

Haha! Yes. My list of DoNotWant is long, but it's very difficult to put into words what I want to read, other than the well-written part.

I'm pretty sure I'll be doing smutty claus again this year. I just need to make sure I do a little bit of writing every day instead of procrastinating and then rushing the story.

Ha! That's what we always say re:procrastination and somehow I always still seemed to be pushed for time in the end.
