Hello All. Update Time.

• Thinking of possibly writing something for charlieficathon, it's very laid back apparently open for claiming write up till it starts posting in May. 'Course now I say this my idea may fall through.


• Been what a week and a half, still not heard back from my tutor about my draft. Emailed on monday with a polite query and got the response probably sometime this week.


• Possibly linked, possibly not but yesterday and intermittently today, I've just felt damned nervous for no discernible cause. Bit weird.


• asoiafkinkmeme seems to be missing in action. Just when I was thinking of looking for inspiration there. At the end of the last round it said the next would open on the 15th.


• eta: Small victory though! I managed to set Google Chrome to spell check in proper English. No more red lines under armour and words ending '-ise' for me!

Don't worry about the Charlie idea falling through. I intend to keep up a steady stream of harrassment encouragement until the porn happens.

Lol "proper English"? I think you mean British English ; )

I'm just kidding. Some people say that American English is simplified but that doesn't sound right to me.

Sadly I think a lot of people lost interest in the kink meme. There are a lot of asoiaf writers on tumblr. I know it may not seem as appealing to switch to a totally different website, especially one with less ability for comments/conversations, but there are some fests/prompt activities over there. I use tumblr a lot but I wish everyone would just use LJ instead.

:) Just my little joke. Yeah, I can often see where american english changed things to make it more common-sensey. 'Cept its silly in other areas. Like not saying the h in herb but it all just what you're used to really.

There still seemed to be a decent number of posting prompts. (though I never say much filling) And I bet interest will go back up come GoT S4. It's just the new mod seems to be MIA.

I'm wondering if I should join A03. There seems to be alot of interest in ASoIaF there from looking at your stories.

Ao3 is definitely a cool archive. It's very user friendly and the tags make it easy to look for similar pieces. I think that people like it because you can leave kudos as opposed to comments, you just click one button to show you like something as opposed to writing a complete response.

You're probably right about S4 generating more interest.

You're the second english person I know who has an issue with people eating the H in herb, of all things.

like I understand if the person has a really thick accent or heavily slang-ed speech that you can't understand what they're saying at all, or if one's name has a very specific pronunciation, but if people have issues with a few words, i don't see what's the problem?

like what about people who speak english as a second language? or have a speech impediment?

(FWI- not mad or anything, I just find it so odd how "pronouncing Herb correctly" seems to be a big deal for english people. ;p )

*shrug* I'm not been hugely serious here. Americans are entitled to say anything they like. It just seems a conspicuous difference that you drop the H and we don't, there doesn't seem to be any particular reason. It doesn't make your english and more sensible and logical like some changes. So that's probably why it stands out.

(although now that I brought it up- I been rolling it around and to clarify--- saying it, it should be HER-b (pronouncing the H) right? )

it was just two people I know (you and this other friend) mentioned the same exact thing with the H in herb and it was just weird and i didn't get it.

Any advice on a good way to search for fics on tumblr as a guest? I always come across tumblr fanfics when I google search but I'm not at all familiar with the site and when I use their search engine I find it hard to sift through just the pictures and little snippets of writing to find something I'm actually interested in.

The thing about tumblr is that it's not meant to be an archive. People post their work on there for the exposure, but it is not meant to house fic, and so it's really hard to go back and look through old posts for it. My only suggestion is to keep using google or stick to Ao3.

I'm sure your nervousness is nothing to be seriously worried about. As the semester winds down I always start to feel restless and waiting around for someone to get back to you on an important draft would certainly do that.

I was wondering about asoiafkinkmeme as well. I hope you're right about more interest pouring in as S4 starts. It'd be sad if I just joined as things are dwindling down.

I did know GRRM had a LJ. It's in the top journals listing on the L's homepage.

I can pretty much wait for the book as whole to come out at this point.
