Ron Weasley had at some length, got his kids settled down in their cots and asleep. He smiled at them fondly. Still young they didn't look that different. Rose's hair was red and Hugo's blond, just going brown. Rose's was as bushy as her mother's but Hugo's was still fine. Rose's had been at the age as well, so there was a chance Hugo's would too.

There was a creak on the floor boards outside the room, and the door to the nursery swung open. Hermione stood there, holding two mugs of tea.

"Got them down?" she whispered, tiptoeing into the room and handing a Ron one of the mugs.

"That's right," He replied in a very low voice. "Should we go?"

Hermione smiled.

"I like watching you watch them. You're so happy."

There was an odd quaver to the voice.

"Well, they're beautiful kids," Ron said. "What's up?"

"Nothing's up," Hermione denied.

"Hermione." Ron said flatly.

"It's Hugo's birthday coming up." Hermione said.

Ron frowned for a moment. Then understood. This was not the change of subject it could have been. They'd started trying for Hugo after Rose's first birthday.

"That's right,"

"Ron, do you want more kids?"

Ron was taken aback, he felt this was a prime topic for a really big argument, but many years of relationship, he'd developed a system, when confused just be honest.

"I hadn't thought about it before but not really no," Ron said simply. "Do you?"

"I'd have more if you wanted them," Hermione said.

"And I'd have more if you did," Ron said. "but that's not really an answer to what I asked?"

Hermione shifted from foot to foot before responding.

"It's just… your family is so big," she said uncertainly, "I thought..."

"That I'd expect us to have that many kids? Well, do you remember how happy that made me growing up?" Ron replied.

"Oh, right," Hermione said.

"I think two kids is perfect. A boy and girl too, as far as we know, that's balanced. What more could we need?"

He was looking at the kids again, his face unconsciously relaxing into one of complete content. He missed that Hermione was shooting him an identical look.

She stepped close to him, and Ron wrapped about an arm about it, her back against his chest, her head on his shoulder, his chin tucked against her hair in familiar closeness.

"Besides I don't want to be outnumbered by this lot, do you?" Ron said.

Hermione stiffled giggles that would have do the unthinkable and woken them up. They drank their tea and admired their kids in a happy silence after that.
