Strange New Worlds is back. I got paramount plus and rewatched the season 2 finale yesterday and watched the first two episodes today. Spoilers under the cut There's some big ones in here.

Apparently I didn't do any reviews for s2. Oops.

S3E1
The follow up on last time's cliffhanger. Everyone gets a subplot and it gets busy but it's serviceable. I could nitpick Batel's solution. (She' can't be medically stasis but s1/s2 both feature transporter stasis and Chapel used it extensive in flashback in s2. She knows how to do it) and the final solution to the Gorn is... technobabble and rather implausibly quickly pulled together. I assume we're not actually finally done with them though.

Still it did what it needed to do and even Mitchell got a nice moment.

S3E2
This is the Spock romance and scifi b plot episode. At least we're getting out of the way earlier. There's a timeskip and Chapel's back from her placement with a new love interest. Really difficult to watch awkwardness ensues. Spock talks to a bar tender and wakes up the next day and is engaged to marry Chapel. Korby comes by and manages to convince Spock of the wrongness of this, hi-jinks ensue as they fail to convince the rest of the crew until Spock gets through to Chapel at the alter.

It turns out the wedding planner is... Trelane, Q's Son, an all powerful energy being who's Dad, voiced by John De Lancie, comes by and makes him reverse everything he did. Yay. Enterprise rightly got raked over the coals for this sort of thing. It's little better when SNW does it.

Oh and Ortegas got gutted in episode 1 and has a ptsd attack in part 2. Hopefully this means they will give her a focus episode being 'is a good pilot' which is great but given they already have a character with Gorn PTSD still not perfect.

Still hope they do more with her, and hope Spock gets some non-romcom plots going forward.
