rarepair_shorts Winter Prompt Extravaganza-January Prompt 8: Happy Birthday. I did Harry then Ron so completed the unofficial Trio trilogy with a Hermione story. And Terry to complete the trip around the houses. Somehow this ended up longer than others!

There was a knock on Hermione Granger's office door late one September evening. She looked up and saw Terry Boot let himself into the room.
"Evening," Terry said smiling.
"Hello," Hermione smiled back. Terry was perhaps not exactly her boyfriend yet but they had gone on a few dates recently. He wasn't bad looking, he had dark brown curls, pale blue eyes and was of middling height. His only real appeal for her was that he could actually carry an intelligent conversation.
"Isn't a bit late?" Terry said. "Today, of all days. Why don't I treat you?"
Hermione glanced on her clock, it was gone eight.
"Alright."
"You go home and change and I'll arrange everything."
This was presumptuous, Hermione thought and even as she apparatted to her door step she was on the verge of changing her mind. She pushed open her front door and -
"SURPRISE!"
Her living room was just full of people, and balloons of all things and a large banner reading "Happy Birthday!!!!!!"
Eventually Hermione recovered from the shock, and drinks and cakes were foisted upon her. Still it was good cake, she thought and she hadn't seen so many of her friends in the same place in a long time. She nibbled at the cake as she made her dutiful hostly rounds.
"Was this your doing?" She said sternly to Harry Potter. He had the emergency spare key to her flat.
"Me?" Harry said smiling. "I'm innocent. I just let people in. It was his idea."
He nodded at Terry, who was standing near-by looking bashful.
"Someone's trying to get some." She said with some asperity.
He looked hurt.
"Umm… Happy Birthday? Many happy returns?" He spluttered.
"I didn't ask for a party."
"Well…" Terry said, looking pink. "You shouldn't have to should you?"
Hermione gazed at him for a long time and then with a sudden exhalation she relaxed.
"It's a very nice party, Terry. Thank you very much."
She handed her cake and drink to a bemused Harry, wrapped her arms about Terry's neck and kissed him on the lips.
The kiss was soft and chaste by most people's standards but Hermione tried to put a lot of promise into it. The way Terry's eyes glowed meant that he'd caught at least some of the meaning.
As Hermione found out later that night, and twice the next morning Terry was good at a lot more than making Polite conversation.
