First episode of a new season. I watched it yesterday and my thoughts are still a little disjointed. Spoilers under the cut.

Summary:
So we start out with Beverly in an action scene with pump action light up phaser rifles. (lol) She gets hurt and sends out a desperate distress signal to Picard that ends up (for some reason) in one of his TNG uniform's commbadges. We're told she's talked to none of the Enterprise Crew for 20 years but is now asking for Picard's help and for him to trust no-one and not involve starfleet.

So he immediately goes to ask Riker for help and they hitch a ride to her ship on a Starfleet vessel where Seven is the First officer under the name of Annika Hansen by order of the captain. They meet a man on the ship that turns out to be Crusher's son (Not Wesley, a new one) and then they ambushed by mysterious aliens. TBC

Meanwhile, Raffi is pretending to be a downout druggie working for what she thinks is Starfleet intelligence tracking some missing WMDs and communicating via cryptic future-skype messages. She figures out where it's going to be used and arrives just in time to see the terrorist attack happen.

Thoughts
I've so many nitpicks, nerdy questions and complaints but on the whole I enjoyed the episode. It is definitely buoyed up by the fact Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes are very likable, both separately and together and seeing Gates McFadden back is great to.

As to Raffi's subplot well presumably it will link to the main plot fairly quickly. I am glad her initial scene was a ruse and very much hope the break up with Seven was part of that ruse.

Seven looks great in uniform and it's nice to see her in Starfleet. Her captain is a dick though. I wonder if he'll turn out to have hidden depths and integrity or she'll just end up in command of the Titan. Still as I hinted above. The fact that is Picard is specifically warned to trust no-one and don't involve Starfleet and then immediately trusts Riker/Seven and hitches a lift on a Starfleet vessel is a bit funny and a little irksome.

I'll be honest I think both Titan-A and neo-constitution class are silly pandering things that don't make much sense. And the neo-connie is just to chunky and ugly for me.

And if you're going to have Worf later and have been warned not to involve Starfleet, wouldn't it be neat plotting to have him turn up in the Rotarran to take them somewhere? Or in some pandering I would like a Starfleet vessel commanded by a DS9 cameo who helps them out because 'friend of a friend' via O'Brien/Worf.

Oh and one last moan: We're again losing Laris after a brief first episode appearence?! WTF. I mean maybe old vs current LI is too cliche but it would be fun and also. Warned not to trust anyone/not involve Starfleet and you have an ex-Tal shiar operative will all sorts of connections as an ally. She seems perfect for the job!

And I'm trying to ignore my continuing annoyance that they jettisoned almost all their original cast and ideas for TNG Reunion: the series but the complete disconnect to s2 is weird given they wrote and made s3 a the same time as 2. (which is presumably why we're getting this before Disco S5)

LOL! That would be a hilarious scene.
