With a sweep of her wand, Hannah Abbot caused all the bar stools in the Leaky Cauldron to spring off the floor and place themselves seat down on the tables, just as the clock finished a series of tinkling sounds marking that it was a quarter past one in the morning. With a heavy, long-suppressed sigh, Hannah realised it was the end of her working day and she was, at last, allowed to stagger upstairs to the flat she shared with her boyfriend.
When she reached the top of the second flight of stairs and opened her front door she was not greeted to a brightly lit room, a hot cup of tea and a hug from her boyfriend as she had hoped. Instead the apartment was nearly pitch-black aside from the shimmer faint glow of candles in a single room at the other end of the flat.
It was enough light to see small shapes of colour lying on the carpet though. Discarding her ale-stained apron, Hannah ducked to examine one and saw that it was a thin, velvet soft petal from a white rose. There was a scattering of them across the floor, forming an irregular trail across the apartment. Hannah followed them, the eerily candle light increasing in strength as she did until she stepped through the last doorway into the room.
Neville Longbottom started intensely at his plants, the tip of his tongue pressed against his upper lip in concentration. The sleeves of his shirt rolled up exposing his muscle, soil smeared forearms. He had a pruning shear in one hand and was considering a large bed of strangely mobile rose plants.
Hannah coughed.
"Hello, Neville."
"Hello, dear," He said, not looking up from his plants, "get off work early?"
"No, Neville," Hannah said, "I'm nearly an hour late."
Neville started and gazed up at her, his eyes wide with surprise. He leapt to his feet and pulled her into a hug, saying;
"Goodness, is that the time? I'm sorry dear, I..."
But Hannah shushed him.
"Don't worry, Nev, I know how your plants carry you away,” she said without irritation, instead an amused smile spread across her face. “Though in most relationships, coming home to find rose petals strewn across the candlelit floor means the guy’s trying to be romantic.”
A few inches from Hannah’s eyes Neville’s eyebrow quirked upwards. His grip around her body tightened, pressing her against his chest, his lips moved towards hers, she felt his breath brush over her lips as he didn’t kiss, instead skimming across her face so he could whisper in her ear;
“What makes you think I wasn’t trying?”
His strong arms moved them with gentle but insistent force, turning them about until she was pressed against his workbench, half sitting among his flowers
His hands fell to her legs, parting them, thumbs running from her knee up the inside of her thighs, only then when she whimpered softly, did he kiss her.
