So in an effort to get in to a more Harry Potter mindset so I can finally hammer out some fic. I stuck the mp3s for Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix audiobook as read by Stephen Fry on my mp3 player to listen to them on my walk to and from work. Just got up to chapter 3, with the advance guard picking Harry up form the durselys and...
and will never be able to take Tonks seriously again.
Stephen just gives her such an odd accent. I guess there's only so many femalish voices he can do before they start to blend together but still; he gives her this thick accent, like sort west country-y, or welsh. Totally threw me off. Harry seems a lot more obviously a moody emo teenager with Stephen reading him lol.

In real life news, I went home to my parents this weekend just past. I am also going home weekened coming. Reason for this is i have two friends, women I now from high school, that I was going to meet up with including one who has been around the world and I've not seen since the beginning of the year. This friend (lets go with A) has flaked out on a meet up before since they've got back fair enough, they had no job and money issues when the first arrive.
But this time A says she probably wont turn up again because they've got a terrible cold, but at that point I've already told the folks I'm coming and I dont want to cancel on them. So I tell the other thread (call her B) I'm coming down whatever happens with A and do we want to go see that film we talking about. So she agrees.
So the next day A definitly decides she can't make the meeting but promises she come down the next weekend, While B mentions that her dad wants to see the film (Skyfall the new 007 incidently) so why does she go see it with him at the weekend instead of me, and i can hang with my parents this weekend and we'll all meet up the following weekend.
So i ended up not seeing either A or B this weekend. Mentioned this to A on fb and she thought it was really weird that I'd told B i was making a special trip home and she ditched me. lol.
In conclusion, does this seem wierd to other people? And how do women think anyone?

Date: 2012-10-30 12:44 pm (UTC)It is a bit funny that your friend made plans with you, including a special trip home, knowing that it was out of your way, and canceled. But I guess it can happen like that when you throw in family, i.e. spending time with her dad at the movie. I think it depends on the person to really know if that "means" anything.
"How do women think" haha, I often wonder how men think. Recently I've tried to remind myself not to let it bother me if friends act that way (canceling/being flighty) because I can just always make plans with someone else. I think this time of year, with the holidays approaching and things like that, makes it harder in those situations. I say "holidays" because we've got Thanksgiving in the middle of Nov. in a couple of weeks, but I suppose you don't have to worry about that in the UK.

Date: 2012-10-30 01:12 pm (UTC)I don't think friend A's inherently flakey. These last couple of meetups have just been bad luck and i guess everyone she knows wants to meet up now she's back in the country so it can't be easy. Of course I may be slighlty biased seeing as how i used to fancy her when i was younger.
Yeah no thanksgiving here. Just christmas as the big family meet up and get on each's nerves occassion. lol.
You're up early Luna. Actually you're an hour closer to my time zone atm because we've put out clocks back and you haven't yet.

Date: 2012-10-30 04:31 pm (UTC)Thanksgiving is kind of a weird holiday. All you do is see your family and have a giant meal. Then some people watch football and everyone takes naps and has leftover turkey for a week.
I got up to take care of the dog, who does not understand the concept of sleeping in lol and I checked my email to see if classes were canceled. They were, so everyone got the day off because of the snow. There's so much of it outside. The university canceled morning classes yesterday but I wasn't sure about the afternoons till I got the email. Sometimes the grounds workers can clear all the walkways in time and sometimes they just can't, it depends on how fast the snow is falling.
That's interesting about the times--when do you guys set your clocks back?
