But the question is where. Where has this weekend gone? I'm sure I meant to do some writing. Kinkmeme writing at the very least if not the stuff for [livejournal.com profile] harryhetbigbang whose first deadline edges ever nearer.

Instead nada. It's not like i've done nothing. I went around the town centre looking for birthday gifts for a friend. I couldn't find anything new or original gift. So... choccys from the supermarket it is. (nice expensive-ish choccys mind you) And for myself i got a new book, Post Captain By Patrick O'Brien. and I watched a couple of episodes of DS9

And today I did my weekly food shopping and watched Gran Torino on dvd. So I know where the weekend went. I just don't know how no writing got done.

[livejournal.com profile] hp_darkfest sign-ups are weird. Apparently there are only mod picked image and quote prompts. Which is sad because I had a couple of prompts I might liked to have donated. I guess I could write them myself but I'm not really a dark writer and i'm not sure I want another fest anyway.

But it looks like i won't have to worry about [livejournal.com profile] asoiafkinkmeme distracting me anymore. They're running a two day round this weekend and then shutting down for a couple of months. Still I seem to be totally out-of-sync with the people prompting at the moment anyway.

eta a random question: How do people and the show for that matter pronounce the name Margaery, as in Tyrell. In my head I'd always assumed a hard 'G' like Marr-Gory. But recently i realised its probably just a fantsyish spelling of the name Marjorie.

How is your total length looking for the bigbang? I think I'm finally at 4k, but there's so much left and I'm worried that I'm moving too slow. Bleh.

Did you like Gran Torino? I watched it for the first time a couple days ago. My parents saw it ages ago and really liked it, but my dad is a big Clint Eastwood fan anyway.

I was not expecting the change in prompts for [livejournal.com profile] hp_darkfest but I signed up anyway, mostly because I already have something started that the prompts could go with, even if the pairing is weird and no one will probably want to read it. Most of the suggestions weren't actually that helpful for fic writing. I like when people prompt a character and a scenario, but all the text prompts were quotes. I'm still going to do it, but I'm not sold on the setup.

Have you noticed that a lot of the formerly familiar posters at the kinkmeme have just....disappeared? I don't understand it. A lot of the people that used to post prompts I would look forward to have just lost interest, I guess. I'm kind of glad they're taking a break though, because I don't have time to write fills and it will just distract me when I should be writing about Harry and Pansy.

I know what you mean about just not writing much. Sometimes I have to bribe myself with scenes I know are going to be fun so I can get through the ones I'm less crazy about, like saving the best parts of your dinner for last lol. That seems to help when I'm working on something long and just not feeling it.

I had a similar reaction to Gran Torino. While I was watching it I ended up checking the time more than once, wondering when the pace was going to pick up. Have you ever seen Harry Brown? It's similar thematically to GT but it's much more in-your-face-action-plot-etc, with Michael Caine as an older vigilante living in a neighborhood that's gone to seed.

I like your Harry/Narcissa idea. I've looked for stories with that pairing all over the place but I can never find any. Maybe someone at darkfest will surprise me and write something like that, although last year I was amazed at the amount of Harry/Draco that got written. I was like, really, must this pairing invade every corner of fandom? Is there no escape?

I love the Bear Island AU. [livejournal.com profile] honey_wheeler accidentally spoiled me at one point, so now I'm all kinds of excited about future chapters. One thing I just don't get that some people seem to love is Jaime/Sansa. That pairing baffles me, but I am honestly not much of a Jaime fan so perhaps I'm biased. Robb/Dacey though--that's so likely/easy for me to believe when you look at canon. And I am constantly sad about how there are no Dany/Jon fics ever. Anywhere. : (

Harry/Narcissa is interesting because Harry kind of owes her for saving him in the forest, so there's a basis for some kind of interaction right there. And she doesn't seem to be as plainly bad/good as Bellatrix and Andremeda, so I'd love to learn more about Narcissa's character.

I'm actually really curious about what would have happened if, say, Robb and Myrcella had been betrothed instead of Sansa and Joffery. I think a lot of things would have happened very differently, and I wish more authors explored that.

As for Robb/Dacey, agreed. Sometimes I just don't feel like reading a piece that's going to rip my heart out. With them you have to deal with affairs, arranged marriages, or the red wedding. How depressing.

Truthfully I can't imagine Sansa with anyone. I mean, Jon/Sansa is fun to write about but I don't expect that to become a real thing, and Jaime and Sandor seem like even weirder picks. I kind of hope that Harry Hardying doesn't turn out to be as much of a womanizer as Petyr made him sound like.

I think you're right about the bond thing, and in the instance between Harry and Wormtail. It seemed like his hand was pretty much out of his control. I remember that scene as being especially creepy.

I'm sure Narcissa is a fairly prejudiced person, it just doesn't seem like she has any aggressive attitudes about it. After everything that's happened to her family I'm not surprised at the disillusioned attitude the Malfoys seem to have. In the end they were very Slytherin in just wanting to look after themselves and not actually caring that much about the ideology.

There are some good Robb/Myrcella stories out there, but not enough. I will have to go look for your fic. Sometimes I really do want an angsty story with some porn thrown in--like that Arya/Benjen fic I wrote. I'm not above filling my own prompts, since no one else seems to write about Jon/Arya like ever.

I'd much rather see Sansa with Tyrion than any of the other options that have been thrown around.
