FB&WTFT ~spoilery~

I'm a little behind everyone else. Saw it tonight with the folks. Not what I expected. And I'm gonna complain a lot in spoiler  tags but that's just my way, it's not bad. It's really very good once it gets going.


Some initial thoughts:-

• MACUSA is really casual and lax on security if some lowly ex-auror can keep bursting on the president and congress in session.


• This was a lot more ensemble than HP and resultantly... Newt doesn't have much of an arc. His character's mostly the same start to end, maybe a bit more friend and less judgemental of americans but that's it.


• Also it's Fantastic Beasts and where to find them and he's already basically written the book? Boo! It seemed tailor made for multiple films


• Did they have to pull out the memory wipe but not really thing with Kowalski?


• The duelling scenes were pretty good. I'm hoping they go more elaborate and more like the book fights than they have.


• Nifflers are awesome. I never imagined they had a tardis  tummy to hold the goodies they snatch.


• The scene with expanding retracting snake-bird was also cool more like what I expected.


• Colin Farrell > Johnny Depp

I hated Johnny Depp here. He looks nothing like Grindlewald - especially if I compare him to the young version we briefly got to see in DH. Colin looks nothing like him either, but since that was just a Glamour or something... Anyway Colin > Johnny.

Saw it last night and thought most, if not all, of this. Not here for Johnny Depp in this franchise at all. His appearance took me right out of the movie (and I had already known he would appear). I liked the rest of it, more or less. Having no expectations, I couldn't be disappointed. Love Queenie and Jacob. They are just so sweet together.
