James padded gingerly over the cold bathroom floor. He rubbed his eyes as he headed back to his bed, hoping to get some more sleep before class tomorrow.

The flat’s too-thin curtain proved no match for the full moon and it highlighted the bed’s occupant. Long and slender and her pale skin was luminous.

As he slid back into the bed and pulled the duvet over them both, Dominique made a sleepy noise and snuggled up to his chest.

“I missed you really,” James whispered, thinking she was asleep.

“I know,” she replied.

Sometimes the words had to be said.
