Well I gave into temptation and got a new tablet/mini-laptop. Just in time as my main desktop has been updating for the best part of an hour. Not sure how much it will be than the phone for ljing/writing/interneting away from home time really, since 'm just trying to get the hang of typing on the keyboard as right now I seem to be snagging the pgup/pgdwn/home/end buttons a lot and sending the cursor everywhere.

I'm now off for a full week! One day of bank holiday, four days of annual leave. Visiting a friend so that should be fun. Still need to go further afield than Birmingham...

Fandomwise, same old, same old. I'd like to do one last drabble for the Night Rounds event. (speaking of that Harry/Fleur seems to go down really well with AO3 for some reason) And of course Bring Back the Porn.

Suggestions for pairings welcome with the caveat that I am impossible to prompt.

If I remember correctly, the Fleur/Harry noncon fic I wrote has like three times as many views as the next most viewed thing I've posted on AO3, and 4 or more times the views of everything else. Not the most kudos though, for whatever reason.

Ended up writing a 100 words for each kid. James with Scorpius, Lily with Rose and Al with Roxy.

By the way, which tablet / laptop did you get? Is it a convertible type where the tablet slots in to the keyboard? I'm looking at the ASUS t100 Chi but can't work out how well it will do what I want it to.

that's actually the exact model I just got. it was a friend's recommendation on offer from ebuyer. but it looks like they've sold out.

only got it today but it looks like it'd should be okay for light webbrowsing and word processing as soon as I get used to the keyboard. it's only got one mini-usb and a mini hdmi port so you'd need adapters to used much in the way of peripherals.

what would you want to use it for?

Ah, brilliant, I wondered when you said tablet/mini laptop if that was it. I use a netbook for 90% of my browsing and 100% of my writing, so I'm looking for a replacement for my current one which is starting to grind to a halt. We do have a large laptop as a family computer, but I find it too cumbersome for writing on - I like the smaller keyboard and screen on my netbook - so I only really use that for watching dvds or videos online.

Mr Birds has had a look around for me and suggested the Asus t100, but he thought Windows 10 would be a better option, and I think that only has Windows 8? I can't remember what he said the differences were, but we're still looking around, basically. I want it to be powerful enough to stand up to a fair chunk of browsing, and I want to be able to use an Office style writing thingy, plus gdocs. I can watch videos and so on on my phone or the other laptop, so it doesn't need to be any good for that. The usb ports wouldn't be an issue, either.

Yeah it's only got windows8 and sadly they've just finished doing the free updates to 10. 10's more like 7 interface wise with a start bar and i believe it's supposed to be quicker and It'll be supported to by microsoft for longer but 8 isn't really bad per se.

I think for browsing and writing it should be okay if you like the small keyboard at least. :)

I think that's why they've just gone down in price, isn't it, because the free updates ended.

I definitely like the small keyboard. I'd be interested to know what you think of it in a few days when you've had more chance to test it out.
