So yeah, I've not really posted this month. The world at large is not cooperating with my aim of a cheerful month. I'm okay just busy at work. We've got our crappy company 'pat ourselves on the back' day on friday that I don't look forward to.

It's summer! Hit 30C in the office today. So that doesn't help my productivity, lol.

Fandom-wise, struggling on the inspiration front. But hp_nextgen_fest is coming up and I'll likely check out those prompts and fail to see anything. Otherwise there's bbtp in September and maybe smutty_claus if it's running.

Is this the company event where they announce whether or not you'll get shorter weeks for the rest of the summer? Sounds like you could use them! 30C indoors, sheesh!

I'm on vacation all this week, and then starting next week I'm sure it's going to start getting crazy again. Students come back 18 August. Can't believe we're less than a month away now. I'm sewing and relaxing and making the most of this last week of vacation!

Early intel is yes we're getting summer hours. But possibly starting even earlier than last year for training.

It's also the meeting where they drag us into the city and don't take us back. Because you know we;re all supposed to go out drinking after wards!

Yay! Holidays! Enjoy your sewing! I still marvel at how early US schools go back. That's like a month ahead of us.

Ugh! I hate company events like that, especially when the company didn't really earn the back-pat. I hope it isn't as horrid as you're expecting.

Kingston isn't that hot right now. We've been having rain for the last couple of days so it's been rather cool for us, especially at night. Granted, I doubt it's as cool as you're used to but it definitely is making our summer more bearable.

I'm thinking about Smutty Claus again. Every year I say I'm not going to sign up for it because it's so stress-inducing for me and every year I do it anyway. Also, I haven't actually written anything since February.

I expect it won't be horrid so much as extremely tedious. The team activity with random people was what worried me extremely last time but it doesn't look like they'll be much of that this time.

30 is really the peak here. It'll probably cool off again quickly and my weather app keeps predicting thunderstorms but none have happened yet.

OooH! Well it's always nice to have some to share stories of procrastination with! I always say I'll trying something new for it but all my plots end up the same.

Yeah, team-building exercises are tedious sometimes. Just hang in there and try to be civil...even if it kills you. If you have mobile data, you might be able to mentally escape to us here in shiny LJ.

We get hot here. Not equatorial countries hot but hotter than average. A couple weekends ago I went to another Parish for my grandfather's funeral and it was scorching hot. Like surface of the sun hot. I could not wait to leave.

I always say I'm going to start early, write a little at a time and be able to send it off to my beta with more than time to spare. What usually happens instead is that I get writer's block on the prompt, procrastinate writing, end up having to rush something, leave my beta with no time to edit, barely make deadline...or worse, have to request an extension...The cycle continues. I really need to get my act together or just not sign up this year.

That could describe my approach to SC. But I'm sentimental about it, it being my first fest and really the only big one I do, so I don't think i could drop it.

That's cool. The first thing I ever did was DG Last Drabble Writer Standing... That was fun. I was surprised when I didn't get eliminated in the first round.

I have only been writing for Smutty for about 4 years... I think. I think I'm one year behind you. But I want to earn all of the icons eventually. That's what keeps me coming back.

I was pretty bummed last year because my SC giftee didn't leave any sort of response to my story. But on the whole I've enjoyed the experience for the two years I've done it (thanks in large part to the two awesome fics you've written for me!), so I'll more than likely sign up again this year.

This reminds me, I don't think I ever went back and left the lengthy feedback to your story last year like I meant to. I really should do that when I've got time....which also gives me a perfect excuse for a reread!

It was 30 degrees at 10am today (35 now) and our current office has no air condition. Our department moves in September and it should be much better in the new building. Too late for this year imo, but yeah I'm looking forward to it. :)
