Day 15

Talk about why you participated in Snowflake &/or what you got out of it. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Well the why, I've alluded to a few times. I was feeling a bit down and disillusioned with fandom at the end of last year and this has helped me worked through things and think about them, I don't think I'm fully there yet so it's a work in progress.

I did managed to most of them! Something like 12/15 in the end.

I do like fandom and what the continue reading and writing and reviewing and taking part. I've just got to find a time and a balance with it.

Thanks to everyone who have read and/or commented on my posts this last two weeks.

Day 14

In your own space, talk about what you think the future holds for fandom. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I have no idea. I'm no good at switching platforms. Hopefully activity will return here or go to other platforms that are about.

For HP in itself, it's shrinking and shrinking. Few fests, fewer people, even the big slash ships are being affected. It's odd but the new canon just isn't generating the same interest in the same way.

Or as I said, I've not moved enough with the times to know where it is.

Was away over the weekend and also not good at challenges. Slightly sad my journal went without a post yesterday but there will be plenty more days like that so...

Day 13

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Day 11

In your own space, talk about your creative process(es) — anything from the initial inspiration to how you feel after something’s done. Do you struggle with motivation or is it a smooth process? Do you have any tricks up your sleeve to pull out when a fanwork isn’t cooperating? What is your level of planning to pantsing/winging it? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Now I didn't know where to start with this but then I remembered re-reading recently this passage from Patrick O'Brian's The Letter Of Marque when one of the protagonists meets a writer while walking and the writer gives a speech including these lines:

Excerpt from Letter of Marque By Patrick O'Brian )

Now I have no idea if P.O.B was describing his own method here, or parodying a kind of writing he disliked or something else entirely but it does seem quite apt to me. There are essential three parts: inspiration, writing and posting.

Day 8
In your own space, post self-recs for at least three fanworks that you created. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Reccing yourself is hard. Especially looking at the fics, I've written since the last time I did self-recs last year. I write for myself, and I am not good at typing and editing, most of my stuff is short stuff that I don't get beta-ed. So without false modesty, or fishing for compliments this is not great stuff.

With that massive caveat in mind here are three (3) fics for you:

Day 6

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

This is a really difficult one for me. I'm sure it is for a few people doing this. I could ask for fics written for me. I have a likes post... somewhere on this journal. But the truth is, i suck at describing what I like and the mere list of pairings and kinks doesn't seem to result in something that clicks. I am odd like that.

So my list:
1)Reviews / Con-crit. (I hope to be able to receive it in a sensible manner)
2) More het and/or fem!dom fic
3) I am susceptible to generalised flattery and love.

And in a broader sense all fandom could do worse than taking a leaf out of Bill & Ted's book:
Be excellent to each other

Day 5

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

  1. [livejournal.com profile] smutty_claus is something I cannot talk about coms and not recommend. It was my first fest so I am fond of it. An exchange focusing on HP het works and posting over Decemember. Christmas theme not enforced just het smut.
  2.  [community profile] hpkinkfest any thing goes Hp kink, a fest devoted to showing off all kinks and all pairins, kinkshaming and pairingshaming very much frowned upon, which I find a very admirable ideal.
  3. [community profile] harry100 / [community profile] hp_nextgen100  and other drabble comms. Fornightly prompts to write 100 word fics (or fics with mutliple 100 word sections) Both a nice challenge in succinct writing and a nice way to keep writing regularly. I've listed the two I follow but there are many others for other characters and themes.

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

So a lot of different things flitted through my head for this. HP. Star Trek Beyond, an episode of Star TRek or Avatar Franchises, Marvel's Avengers Film (the circle shot!) and Batman Beyond: Return of The Joker but the first one I thought of and eventually settled on was:

Justice League (2017) [review and embedded video under cut] )

Day 2

Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Well the first two are the ones I have book marked on A03.

It Could Only Happen To Harry by Hoosyourdaddy This is from years and years ago when I first read it on AFF. A fun, tongue in cheek, Harem style fic. In an AU post OotS Harry is found to have excess magic after defeating lord Voldemort, which can be donated to friends via a sex ritual. Fleur, Tonks, Parvati, Luna and Hermione are enlisted to help out.

It's silly and it knows it but it does also included so nice characterisation and fun interactions as well as sex, you do have to be able to overlook quite a lot of Weasley bashing though.

I only recently found it on Ao3 and saw that it had been finished. So I need to re-read it, myself and hope it lives up to my memory.

Stick Situation by MegaMatt09 This is a guilty pleasure fic. It's Spider-Man with virtually every Marvel or DC character in existence in PWP basically unconnected chapter. It's pure male fantasy smut, every girl drools over Spidey, he's amazing talented and hung etc. MegaMatt writes like a machine and publishes frequently, has like 50 chapters in a queue. This is not something I'd binge read but it is something I check the chapter list when it updates to see just which obscure character he's used this time.

Saving the Best for last:
(En)Tangled by [personal profile] torino10154 . This is cheating because it was written to my request of Harry/Parvati and 'hair kink' which Torino did her usual excellent job on. A quick 150 words that establishes Harry's attraction vividly and then is immensely creative it's use of the prompt. Can never thank Torino enough for writing my random rare pairs and kinks.

Day 1

In your own space, talk about your Happy Place—the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Oh goodness. I'm feeling such a grim person at the moment. I wouldn't say I have a happy place. I wouldn't say I am unhappy but that phrase just doesn't figure into my mental vocabulary.

I guess what I would say is the old cliche: curling up with a good book at the end of the day. It's not a panacea ut it does take your mind off of things and take you away to a different world.
