neville100's Prompt #601: "Haunted". I was mean to him again.
---
Neville Longbottom nursed a drink at the Gryffindor reunion, sat in a corner. He avoided looking towards where Charlie Weasley sat with an arm around Harry Potter. They both looked happy and he should be glad of that. Harry deserved some happiness.
As for him, well, he’d had his chance.
It had been at another Gryffindor reunion, maybe a year or two after the Battle Of Hogwarts.
“Hello there,” said a tall, wide, ginger man, with muscles that made Neville’s mouth dry. “You’re Neville right, one of Ron’s friends?”
Neville nodded, wide-eyed.
They shook hands, Charlie seemed reluctant to let go.
“Can I buy you a drink?” he said. “I hear you’re a useful fellow.”
And there it was. A tall, gorgeous man, interested him as hero of Hogwarts, he didn’t know the real Neville and he wouldn’t have wanted to either, Neville knew.
“Er… sorry, not interested.” Neville said.
Neville finished his drink. Nodded to Harry across the room and departed the pub.
There was no point being bitter he thought to himself, no reason to get upset. He’d made his decision, a long time ago now and it was irrevocable, no matter how haunting he found it now.
