James Sirius Potter gripped a bottle of butterbeer, hard enough that his knuckles had turned white. It was supposed to be a party for Gryffindor Quidditch team’s latest victory but James wasn’t having fun at all.

Across the room from him, a small witch with a shock of red hair was lying sprawled across the room’s one sofa with her head in a man’s lap, smiling up at him as he tousled her hair.

How genuine that smile was James did not know. What he did know was that it was a message from his ex-girlfriend.

I’m so over you.
