season finale, not a fan, spoilers under the cut.
I don't have much to says about the season finale because it doesn't say or do much and is largely taken up by sentimental trash. It was clearly they wrote it as series finale if they didn't get renewed (the title makes no sense except as an end coda) and I hate the glurge when it's at the end a series for real. Not two seasons early.
So Evil!Gamble resurrects himself with the medical transporter. Batel being a merge of Human/Gorn/Illyrian turns her into an angel. (they don't use that word.) They go back to the prison. Pike and Batel have an illusionary happily ever after that gives her the power to seal away the vezda and turns her into the living statue guard because cause follows effect there.
The end. It's all contrived trash. The spirk fans will be happy though, they mindmeld for contrived reasons and it's treated romantically.
I can't actually describe how bad this one really was. I don't have the worlds yet.

Date: 2025-09-15 05:15 pm (UTC)That was certainly my feeling about the finale--well, about most of this season, actually. I can't find a way to reconcile SNW's promising season 1 with what we were given in season 3.
"Contrived" is very much the appropriate descriptor for the season as a whole. As I've said elsewhere, nothing in this season (with the exception of "Terrarium") is what I hoped for or expected when SNW was first announced.

I've often been confounded by the lack of strange new worlds in Strange New Worlds.
