Shuttle to kenfori, spoilers under the cut

This episode felt... technically good but I didn't really like it. Did we really need Star Trek does zombies?
On the technically good side, yes it's good M'Benga's facing consequences for killing ambassador D'Rah. It's good that Pike finds out and it's clear he didn't know already. On the other hand, the upshot is... Pike is now an accomplice after the fact covering up M'Benga's crimes. Is that something we want from him?
Yes, I supposed it's better for there to be no quick fix for Batel. This episode or in the opening but... it's not a fun story, it's not bringing out anything good in Pike and... there's no time crunch or there shouldn't be. Transporter Stasis is a thing. It feels unfair to pick on that apart from both previous seasons showed M'Benga and chapel very familiar and using the technique.
And Ortegas. I wanted an Ortegas plot and her stuff in this episode does go back to her trauma in the opener and established anti-klingon biases. It's just... it's also not fun.
Remember when SNW was sold as lighter, softer, fun episodic sci-fi?
