Lily Luna Potter's hair was always messy. She was glad that no-one would notice it was extra unkempt this morning. The darkness under eyes and hitch in her walk though...
She held her head up high as she walked down to breakfast. People expected a seventh-year Hogwarts prefect to be completely imperturbable.
Lily barely winced as she settled onto the bench. Though the micro-expression did not go unnoticed by her best friend.
"So how was your date with Tom Finnigan?" said Sally-Anne Perks Junior as they sat at the breakfast table together. "I don't know what you see in him."
"It was good. I do like Tom. He's nice." Lily said flippantly.
"Everyone's nice to you," Sally said grumpily.
"He plays Quidditch."
"Most of the team's asked you out." Sally objected
"Alright, if you must know, he runs around the lake everyone morning."
"What's that got to do with anything?" Sally asked.
Lily sighed.
"Sally, it means he's got endurance"
Sally Perks considered this for a few moments and then coloured nicely when she realised what Lily meant.
Lily just smiled at her and slipped into a happy reverie of the previous night's, and early morning's for that matter, exertions.
