hp_nextgen100's Prompt #317: "Opportunity". Sophie Finnigan is a semi-reoccurring OFC who is semi-consistently thought out. None of her appearances are in linked stories so far though.

There was a knock on James Sirius Potter's flat door. He answered it. On his door step stood a young woman with long sandy blonde hair. James smiled.
"Soph! Come in!"
Sophie Finnigan had been his best friend since first year of Hogwarts. She stepped into his room but didn't sit down, fidgeting uncharacteristically from foot to foot.
"What's up?" James asked.
She said nothing.
"Sophie?"
"I'm going away," She blurted out. "Like out of the country away for a while. I've had this opportunity but this is my last night here for ages."
James moved close and kissed her.
James' lips brushed Sophie's forehead. He backed away quickly. It had been an instinctive reaction.
"James, what was that?" Sophie snorted. "That's not where you kiss someone?"
"It's where I'm kissing you for now."
"For now?" Sophie said.
"For now." James said. "Stop me if I'm wrong but there's a tension here. I'm not rushing into anything to because you're going away. I'd rather do it properly when you're back."
He realised there was a good chance he was not going to get another opportunity but his mind was made up.
"I'm an open book to you, huh?" Sophie said.
James cocked his head.
"We've been friends how long? Known each other longer. I should do."
Sophie was looking up at him with wide blue eyes, her lips were parted and covered in pink gloss. She was dressed in an unzipped hoodie and loose top underneath was emphasising her… breathing.
He was kicking himself already. She'd been his friend since long before being opposite sexes mattered though and she understood.
"Right then," Sophie said suddenly, "that's sorted. Are you going to offer me a beer and listen to me waffle on about it then?"
"Absolutely," James said with a grin.
