All my stuff is done and dusted for the moment. No obligations, woo. To make up for my dreary posts of late lets do something fun!

Slag of other people's ships! That's always good for a laugh. But really, I've reached the last chapter of Half Blood Prince on audio book and it struck me again how I have absolutely no feeling for Remus/Tonks. It's just dumb y'all! It's like even worse than Harry/Ginny.

I mean I do admire the way Harry is absolutely clueless and the book has him noticing what's going on but attributing it to Molly wanting Bill/Tonks when really she's trying to get Remus and Tonks together.

But the pay off at the end... this ship does neither of the main character's any good. Tonks turns into this lovesick unfun idiot and just whiny at the end (wha! why on't you love me! wha!) and I never get the impression Remus actually cares for Tonks. I mean its more like that everyone in the room just nagged him into putting up with her at the end. Especially given his attitude at the start of the next books.

So how many people on my f-list have i just mortally offended?

I think the Lupin/Tonks relationship ruined both of their characters. I came out of OotP with Tonks as my favorite character. I admit she was borderline Mary Sue, but she was just so cool and a good age to appeal to me at the time.

HBP took away all of that & made her some sort of Twilight-esque character who all but gave up on life because the man she loved didn't love her back. Even in the very end, she didn't show up to fight for a cause. She showed up looking for Lupin.

I agree he never seemed happy with her. The one time we saw him happy was when Teddy was born, & that was all about his son.

The pairing could have worked (although I'm personally uncomfortable with the age difference), but written as it was, it left a bad taste in my mouth.

I saw a comment you made below about the line Ginny said about never giving up on Harry, and I agree that would have made that pairing much more palatable.

If you look at it, many characters in HP end up with their teenage sweetheart - Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, Molly/Arthur, Lily/James. It's more than a bit unrealistic, but given that it's a kids' fantasy series, albeit with adult themes, I can see why she wanted to go for the happily ever after ending.

forgot to mention this....

Not Everyone....

Bill didn't, Charlie was single, Percy married someone who wasn't penelope, Luna married Rolf, Cho sworn off wizards and married a muggle,,etc, etc, etc

Like I think it's an even 2/2 split between those who married someone they knew in Hogwarts and those who didn't.
