Star Trek Discovery S5E9

Spoilers under the cut

So the penultimate episode of the season and show Discovery and it's... fine. The character beats are fine and work. It moves at a decent pace, beyond a rather foolhardy plan it doesn't do anything too stupid.

There are a lot hints that they are going to kill off Saru which I hope doesn't happen.

And I figured the ending out as soon as we saw the pod had a portal in it but that's fine too.

The problems with these arcs is that basically they are only as good as the end, so I really hope the manage a good landing in the last episode

I'm really, really, really wishing this had been an arc in an earlier season and not the end. We're down to the next to the last episode?! It's obvious that Frakes directed this one since he's so damn good but what is up with bringing the intensity to a screeching halt so Michael can talk to Book?! Even Book seems to be like "uh, maybe this isn't the best time to do this."

I don't hate the new bridge crew members but I feel like I know next to nothing about them other than being glued to the bridge. No Owosekun or Detmer? >:( I'm just... perplexed. I'm also getting irrationally annoyed that for being touted as queer Star Trek, it's focusing on straight relationships and at the most Hugh/Stamets get to share a quick kiss.

My last (haha) rant is that with all that Michael is thinking about, she can't think of anything past herself and book. What about Phillipa?? ANYTHING else?
