Desperate Times Desperate Measure Chapter 9

Well since I've picked up a few more friend than just Hollywoodlawn, I'd thought i'd pimp out my fic updates here as well.

So chapter 9 of my Harry/Tonks fic has gone up. I think its the most popular of my fics given the number of ratings and reviews per chapter.

I think that Harry/Tonks is a fairly rare pairing, given the relatively minor popularity of her character. And it's even rarer to have a good story surrounding them and why it would make sense for them to be together in the first place, barring the usual soul-bonding plots, harem plots, and kinky one-shots.

I like the humour you bring to the story through the voice of her character. Her musings on Dumbledore were very funny. And it's good that you keep them in character, not just through what we know of them through canon, but through what kind of problems or benefits a May-December romance like this would wrought. You don't just skim over that, but make it a realistic part of their relationship. Tonks is used to being with men and here she is, essentially teaching a young teen the finer points of carnal expression. It's bound to bring about a whole host of conflicting emotions for her and you don't shy away from that. Harry isn't a master lover who has her at his beck and call. The WAFF between them is done really well.

:-D Thanks. You really know what I'm going for here. :P I wonder why. As I've mentioned there's another Harry/Tonks fic I've read on AFF that really was the inspiration for it. It had the same plot but I felt didn't really follow through on the issues as much. For example, it had Tonks secret having fancied Harry so things went more smoothly for them. Then again it also features Harry as a Lord in the Wizarding and having a big influence there.

Still the Tonks fancying Harry thing wouldn't be so bad. If I wrote a fic where they came together more naturally I'd totally incorporate that and have Tonks' clumsiness be a part of it. Like a super-duper version of Ginny. Considering its one of the few things we know about Tonks from the canon I never got how Tonks could be a badass Auror while being so clumsy.

All right, I actually read all 9 chapters yesterday when I should have been writing my own LOL. God, I'm procrastinating lately. My favorite line:

“Just lie back and try to relax, Harry, I hear this is supposed to be fun.”

LMAO. Poor Harry, his first time was just mortifying wasn't it? But he's getting better. I like it. Hope you write more soon. I'm interested in how it's affecting his relationships with his friends, Ron's jealousy in particular.

Procrastination is such fun isn't? :-D I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Not sure when I'll update it again. I've got more than one story on the go. Which is a bit silly because I end up procrastinating on both of them at once. This is what I like to call multitasking.

LOL I have no idea how writers can work on more than one fic. I can't even read any of the books I have stacked next to my bed right now. I'm totally consumed with WICDT. I can't even imagine juggling it with another. I would go mad.

I used to think it was a nice way to switch up your thinking every now and then.

When I started writing Mad Snorkacks and Englishmen, it was my first fanfiction and I was pretty gung ho about it. The reviews really pumped me up and inspired me to keep going. I had a pretty good idea of where I wanted the story to go, but I was thinking about it so much that I would come up with new plots and twists every week.

After writing it for a straight 6-7 months, though, I was getting a little bored with it. Actually, it was trying more than anything--there was so much angst going on that it was sucking the energy out of me to keep up with it. I had written a really, really nasty chapter that I had essentially been planning for ages and I needed a bit of a breather. Then someone asked me if I would write them something if they gave me a prompt. So I took the challenge and it worked out nicely for a bit. A few weeks spent on one story, then writing a chapter for the other...kept things fresh and left me more open-minded.

Then I signed up for a fic fest and things started to fall apart from there. I still have lots of outlines for plot bunnies I know I'll never commit to. At this point, it would be nice to have just ONE of my WIPs done.

I've got only the two posted on-goings but... *checks hard drive* there's at least three partial first chapters or 1 shots. 4 if I count a vague idea for an X-men fic and 5 if I count the attempt at a chapter 4 for 'Bossy In Bed' but that's never going to happen.

I've never really taken part in any fests. Been vaguely thinking about taking part in smutty_claus but I'm bad with deadlines. So maybe not...

just the idea of that makes me feel panicked lol. I've been writing on this fic essentially every day since I started sometimes in March I think. I'll be glad for it to come to an end. It's been all consuming and stressful, I've loved it too but I'll be glad to take a break and just breathe for a while.

Now that's the kind of drive and inspiration, I kinda miss. My first fic; 'It's Just Sex' was all done much more quickly than later efforts. I was putting out chapters every three or four days in place. Though to be fair its unproof read and typo ridden and probably barely legible.

Now I start something on an inspiration but if I take to long about it, its gone and I'm just left with some lines I think are nifty but none of the drive or clarity of the initial burst of inspiration.

I think one of the reasons INJS seems to be dragging on is that its a sequel and I had to think about it and plot it out specifically because its written as a sequel and not born of its own burst of inspiration.

If that makes any sense.
