Summary: Harry takes each of his children to Diagon Ally to buy their first wands.

harry100's prompt # 466:"Ollivanders". Starring... his kids. (Oops)
Harry Potter was taken aback when his son burst into tears just after leaving Ollivanders. Ignoring the looks of passers-by, Harry knelt down next to his son so they were on eye level and waited.
"What's the matter James?" He said gently.
"My wand…" James said. "I wanted Holly and Phoenix feather! I told him! I wanted!"
"You heard what Mr Ollivander said," Harry said, patiently. "It doesn't work like that. He doesn't pick the wand, the wand picks you."
"I wanted to be like you, Dad."
Harry's heart nearly broke.
"Jamie, I'm proud of you just like you are."
Two years later when Harry took Albus Severus on his first proper trip to Diagon Alley, Al showed great reluctance when they approached the wand shop.
"Are you okay Al?"
"Yes, Dad." Al said though he seemed to say it by reflex. Harry paused by the door and smiled at Al questioningly.
"It's just…" Al said. "It's a big thing isn't it? A big important thing. What if I get a bad wand? Like I've been reading and wands made of elder…"
Harry smiled warmly.
"Al," he lied. "you don't want to listen to fairy tales. They're hardly ever true."
By the time he took his youngest to Ollivanders, Harry was almost expecting something to happen. Lily was quite happy before, during and after her trip to the shop though and it was Harry himself who had to contain his emotions.
Lily had waved half the wands in the shop before the proprietor offered her one that she'd showered the room in sparks with: a holly and phoenix feather wand.
"Maybe don't make a big deal out of the wand to your brothers," Harry said softly as they went home.
"Oh no," Lily said. "I wanted one like Mum's anyway."
