“Hi Rose,” A nervous voice said.
“Hi Scorpius,” Rose replied with an encouraging smile.
“Hi,” Scorpius said again, apparently losing his place already. “It’s Valentine’s day.”
“Yep.”
“Hogsmeade weekend, this week.”
“That’s also true.” Rose nodded.
“W-would...” Scorpius began.
“Hi Rose, Hey Scorpius,” said a friendly voice going the other way. Scorpius leapt a foot in the air and whirled around to face Hugo. Hugo was two years younger than him, but two inches taller and two inches broader in the chest as well. Scorpius went pink and stuttered something.
“Scorpius, wait!” Rose said.
But Scorpius was in full flight.
“Oh thank you, Hugo. Thank you very much.” Rose said.
“What?” Hugo spluttered. “I said hello.”
“You loomed.” Rose accused.
“I said hello!” Hugo insisted. “All friendly like, like brothers are supposed to do. What did he want anyway?”
“What?” Rose spluttered.
“What did he want?” Hugo repeated slightly louder and more slowly. Rose glared.
“He was asking me out, as you well know.”
“Oh.” Hugo scratched his bushy brown head. “Sorry, I didn’t know. Really I didn’t.”
His blue eyes were guileless. Rose sighed.
“Don’t worry about it. Now I’ve got to chase him down and ask him out.”
