 Okay, I don't know if I should post this so it's going to be a bit of a strange one.

Got an email from Dreamwidth saying  'Someone has chosen to upgrade your Dreamwidth Studios account.'  obviously they have chosen to remain anonymous and that's fine. I don't want anyone to de-anon themselves but I am rather curious I guess because someone spent money on this and I guess I'm kind of weirded out by that slightly? I wondering if it was meant for someone else, initially I thought it was spam of some kind.

I mean the politest thing to do is to take it as a generous gift and say thank you:

Thank you!

OTOH, I don't want to seem ungrateful but I feel like I should be repaying anon here and to be completely honest, I'm not sure I will use the paid features. (I'm not one for say using a lot of avatars or schedule a thousand posts) .

But really I guess it's donation to dreamwidth by proxy and that of course is very well deserved so I can't complain.

Sorry. Like I said strange post and I'm not sure what the right reaction is here. So honest is best policy.

Saw this on the “latest” page — you can gift paid time to a random user, so maybe that’s what happened?

This has happened to me before! I never found out who did it (I did ask several suspects, which might go against the idea of anonymous gifting but what can I say, I have trouble not investigating a mystery, it's a personality flaw I have) and while it could have been someone using the "gift a random user" feature, it was also my birthday which seems like an extraordinary coincidence.

I think the only thing to do is take it as somebody doing something nice without expecting anything in return. As you say, even if you don't choose to use the features, it's supporting a site we all use and enjoy.

Aye, the gift random user thing seems likely now I know about it. The other odd thing of course is it's not near a birthday or gifty date for me as far as I can tell.

Well I shall count myself fortunate and try and pass it on in other ways I guess.
