hp_nextgen100 Prompt #254: "Diagon Alley." And also a very belated Happy Birthday to
torino10154. This and the preceding Lorcan/Lily Luna fic are the closest I'll get to a dedicated fic this year. (Sorry).
Al had thought it was an accident the first time. James had been in a strop and Mum had been sweet talking him out of it with Lily at her side and so, on his very first trip to Diagon Alley it had just been him and his Dad.
Dad hadn’t insisted on holding Al’s hand at least but he did hover close as he pointed out the great white marble building of Gringotts bank, got him fitted for robes and ushered him into Ollivander’s wand shop.
It was only in the Owl Emporium did Al notice his Dad’s smile.
Over the years, Al came to realise that Dad was always about on shopping day and it took more years for him to figure out how much effort Dad put in to clear his schedule for it every year.
“Did I see a Hogwarts letter today?” Dad said, one evening as they poured over a crossword together.
“Hmm.” Al said, non-committally, wary of the N.E.W.T talk.
“Going to Diagon Alley soon?” Harry said cautiously. “I suppose you’ll go with Scorpius? Or Sharon?”
Al blushed.
“Do you want to come Dad? For old times’ sake.”
“Oh, yes.” He said, smiling broadly.
