hp_nextgen100's prompt #250:"Fright"
James Sirius Potter slowly came back to consciousness. The last thing he remembered was getting between the Gryffindor seeker and a Bludger, leaving his broom behind.
He looked around. It was a sight that was he was all too familiar with at least according to the Matron: it was the Hogwarts hospital wing.
“Oh,” he said after a while. “That didn’t work out”
The rest of the team looked relieved.
“Did we at least win?”
The rest of the team looked about shiftily, not meeting his eyes.
James glared at their seeker who had the good grace to look abashed.
Under the eye of the Matron, the rest of the team eventually departed, leaving behind a willowy strawberry blonde witch sitting by his bedside. She hadn’t said anything, she looked calm but it was clearly a pose, to James at least. She was too calm and very pale to boot.
“So, been here long?” He said with an attempt at levity.
Dominique Weasley glared at him.
“Gave you a fright, did I?” James said.
“If you die playing Quidditch, I’ll kill you.”
She didn’t talk to him for the rest of the night but she didn’t leave his bedside either.
