I think they mostly landed it? Sort of. Major spoilers.

My notes jotted down as I went:
  • New Warbirds are ugly
  • Seven does your phaser not have a stun setting? You can shoot first! Then again ignoring stun settings is a long running thing in the franchise.
  • New Federation ships are ugly. Or in both case, full fleets with so many, so close together does not do them justice.
  • When did Jurati become a medical doctor? These last two episodes?
  • The Seven/Rios and Raffi/Elnor mourning pairings seem reversed from what I would expect given how close Seven and Elnor seemed to be getting in part 1
Now afterthoughts: It was basically want I wanted to play out, done reasonable well. Another person I read the review of said they felt like the ending with Picard's new body was bit tacked on when they got a series 2 and it did seem a little awkward.

It felt a little, I don't know? On the nose?

Still the end message was positive and it was all fun so yeah. It's a decent first series and I'll be happy to come back to it next time.

All that said, I don't dislike Disco (though I do need to watch most of s2)or Picard but they are very modern, short arc based shows focussing on their central character.

I can't pretend I'm not pining for a 20 plus episode a series with an ensemble cast and mostly stand-alone stories, though.

As I was mentioning to [personal profile] pauraque earlier, I think one of the best things about Picard is that it is a veritable buffet of possibilities for fic.

I was certainly here for the positive Picard speeches and am still digesting a lot of the rest but am overall really into it.
