Challenge #9
In your own space, promote at least one canon that you adore
Now, Harry Potter is obvious the big one I'm in fandom and write for. I try and do something slightly less obvious for this challenge so here is my canon: The Martian (movie though I hear the book is even better)
Matt Damon needs rescuing... again!
Jokes aside, the plot is that in the not-too-distant-future an astronaut exploring the planet Mars is accidentally left behind for dead and then has to survive on the planet on limited resources for as long as possible while Earth tries to send more supplies/go back for him.
Why do I adore this? Because like Stranger Than Fiction, it's a movie, I watched, liked and can't really think of any criticisms for.
It's got an all-star cast giving great performances, it's a tour-du-force of actor for the star Matt Damon who has a lot of scenes to carry all alone and does so with aplomb and charisma. There is no bad guy and everyone feels like a genuine person. There is conflict and disagreements but everyone is genuinely trying to pull together and do their best for the lost astronaut and the returning crew.
It's a genuinely fun, funny and even optimistic movie everyone wants Matt Damon back and even the chinese space program helps out as they can bringing in more international cooperation. At the moment, an positive outlook on the future is a much needed boost.
