As many people did (accidentally) I'm combining two days of the challenge into one here.

"Challenge #1

In your own space, introduce yourself."

and

"Challenge #2

In your own space, talk about your fannish history."

Who Am I?

I’m lightofdaye or just daye.

For God’s Sake Why?

I originally stole the name ‘Daye’ from a Star Wars short story when I was a young teenager, 13 or 14 I think and it also works as an unusual abbreviation of my real first name of David.

When I created my livejournal I think just Daye was either already taken or too short of a journal name so I add lightof on the front as a pun on ‘light of day’ with no real deeper meaning.

My Fandoms

I write fanfics! Mostly inauthentic smut and mostly for Harry Potter though I have occasionally ventured out into other franchises such as A Song Of Ice and Fire (Not Game Of Thrones, the books), X-Men (the fic was the old Evolution cartoon) and Mass Effect.

What Am I A Fan Of?

Distinct from what are my fandoms because I’m not really actively writing or discussing these beyond the odd review. Sci-fi movies and telly such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Farscape, nBSG, B5 and Doctor Who.

Fantasy novels like AsoIaF, Discworld, Dresden Files and mostly recently the Lady Trent Dragon books.

Plus Napoleonic war naval books: Hornblower, Aubrey-Maturin series and the Ramage books bu Dudley Pope, I’ve also borrowed and read but am not a huge fan of the Sharpe books. Plus the IN SPACE analogues of Hornblower and Aubrey-Maturin which are Honor Harrington and the RCN series.

I also like Avatar:The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra. Plus like all the world I like the MCU and X-Men and Spider-Man though I haven’t kept abreast of their comics.

What’s my blog for?

Posting the aforesaid fanfictions, moaning about not being able to write, moaning about real life (including very occasional forays into British politics) and the odd review of the movies or tv shows I may be watching

Shipping

Fitzroy, moderate or rough. Oh character shipping? Well for HP Harry/Luna is close to my OTP, it’s basically the only one I think could have been canon but it’s hard to get it feeling right with Luna’s eccentricities so what I mostly write is Harry with nearly anyone that’s not Hermione or Ginny. Other random rare pairings of that generation and various Next gen pairings. (Mostly cousincest because it’s that, Scorpius, or OCs that No-one will care about) (And mostly based on my head canons as I’ve not seen or read CC and don’t like basically everything I’ve heard about it.)

For X-Men it was always Scott/Rogue, which was a nice thing Evolution did to break up the standard ships and triangles and I’m sad it was never really dealt with in the show it sort of petered out.

And my playthroughs of Mass Effect were always femshep/garrus or maleshep/Tali.

Fannish History

I was born at a young age. Became interested into Star Trek and Star Wars quite early on. Oddly, I only saw the first movie on video and read quite a few of the old EU novels before seeing ESB and RotJ when they came out special editions. (Though since that was 97/98 I maybe misremembering how many I actually read. Definitely read Heir Of The Empire/The Last Command from the library before seeing the latter movies) possibly why I am more emotionally attached to the old books and don’t really like the new Disney stuff. I also read the first two or three HP books before the phenomenon really took off. (That’s right I am literally saying I liked it before it was cool.)

Now my fannish participation started in the early teens on sci-fi discussion bbses, this included some early attempts at non-erotic stories I would not like to revist. My teenage years also saw me read a lot of bad erotica (Illegally!) from places like the greyarchive.org and adult-fanfiction.org.

I graduated university into 2009 in the middle of a lovely lovely financial crisis and while failling to find jobs I found myself procrastinating and turning my hand to writing porn as well reading it and basically have not looked back since. I wouldn’t have said HP was the series I was most a fan of but it was the most accessible to me from a writing point of view and having kept it up for nearly a decade (I think the 10 year anniversary of my first aff fic is later this month) I can hardly claim not to be a big fan of it.

I followed a fan/fellow write of mine on AFF onto livejournal in 2010 and then took part on my first fest (Smutty_claus) in 2011 and have been doing it ever since.

I am now nearly 32 and have presence on livejournal, dreamwidth and archiveofourown under lightofdaye and at tumblr as thelesseroftwoweevils (an Aubrey-Maturin pun reference)

TL:DR

I am daye, I write fanfic and overuse parentheses.
