Poor Ron...

I like Ron Weasley. I don't really get the fandom hate for him. And I think the later books and the movies did him a great disservice by emphasising his role as comic relief. In later books he never gets a chance to shine, like he does in Prisoner of Azkaban. Where he stands on a broken leg to get between Harry and Sirius (when they still though Sirius was an evil mass murderer) and if he does something good. like excel at keeping or rally the group's horcrux hunt it happens entirely off page or is glossed over in a couple of paragraphs.

On the other hand... gosh darn is it easy to write him into the role of the guy asking questions for exposition and have be jealous for conflict and so forth. I keep falling into using him that way instead of doing better for him.

Yes this is a covert [livejournal.com profile] smutty_claus post. And its coming along. I did lots today. And by lots i mean, I typed out the stuff I wrote in my notebook last weekend. Still, I'm still feeling upbeat about this one.

I know what you mean about the Ron-bashing. I was disappointed in the later films especially because his role was so peripheral. It's kind of easy to write Ron off as a static character because that's simpler than getting into his complicated relationship with Harry. Have you ever read Ron/Pansy stories? There are some authors in that pairing that really love Ron and write him so well.

I'm pretty happy with my SC progress. I emailed the mods asking for an extra week on the deadline because I have several tests coming up and I want to finish this piece in good form. I do need a beta though. Was planning on checking out the sign up post to find someone.

Luckily I've already passed the word count, so however I wrap up the fic it meets the rules. I wish I had more time to write. How long is your fic so far? How are you feeling about the deadline?

Well, 700 is pretty close to the required total. We have "final exams" at the end of the semester, but there's lots of regular exams whenever the professor feels like it. Like, every 4-3 weeks you could have an exam, but then there's some people who don't do exams at all and they assign a giant project at the end of the course.

But yes, our entire education system is based on testing. So we have exams all the damn time. In high school and earlier years it was even worse.
