Expendables.

S0 I was meaning to write today. Instead my friend got off work earlier than expected and we saw a movie/ had a meal. Intially we'd planned to see The Bourne Supremecy, because my friend fancies Jeremy Renner. But its turns out no, he doesn't want to see a Bourne film because he find them forgettable lets go see the expendables instead. (because he also fancies liam hemsworth)

The expenables. Oh Dear. Just Oh dear.

I'm good with mindless action flicks. If i skip past a random scene of martin lawrence and will smith bullying a kid, I can pretty much watch bad boys II constantly. I love The Rock, Con-Air, Face/Off. 

This was not a good action film for me. i mean I guess I get why most of the one-liners are supposed to be funny. But they just weren't. It was too predicatable. The plot was thin on the ground even for this fair and I don't care about the characters, which is bad because they keep having these quiet supposedly poignent character moments between action scenes but it dosn't work because these guys just don't have the acting chops to do it.

I get the expendables shtick is too stick as many action heroes old and new on screen at once and show how manly it is. But really if you cut down the cast of characters so everyone had a decent amount of screentime. you might make a better movie.

So yeah what I have learnt. My friend still has terrible taste in movies. I prefer 90s action movies to the 'classic' 80s ones and that old action stars should now when to quit.

That's the impression I got from the previews. My dad saw the first one because he loves stuff like that, and he wanted me to go with him for the second, but I put him off. A lot of the time I end up going to movies like that to spend time with my dad even if I'm not that interested in the film, so I've somehow managed to see every martial arts film/Rambo sequel that's been made in the last 5-7 years.

Normally the Bourne movies are really good, but the fourth one didn't look very promising to me. Matt Damon will always be Jason Bourne in my head, and the author of the first three books didn't write the fourth one, so I don't know how much I'd like the new film.

Well Renner isn't Bourne in this. Just another agent in Bourne's supersky program for amnesiacs or whatever it was. I've seen the first two but I can;t remember anything about them except shakey cam and improvised weaponry.

I've heard its good but oddly paced. But this is from an internet friend who really like expendables 2. So his taste is... suspect

Ah, I see. Well you are really missing out then, because The Bourne Ultimatum, the third film, is probably my favorite. The pace is crazy and the action sequences were actually very impressive. I guess I just liked that the fighting choreography was more realistic than what you'd normally see in a movie. The first film seemed much more low budget, but 2 and 3 had a pretty complex plot.

Haha. I guess I'll skip it then. One of my friends told me that Total Recall is good, but I haven't gone to see it either.

Hmm. Total Recall. Saw the trailer for that again today. The future city stuff actually makes it looks quite good. But the lead actresses. Bleh. Not people who really ever impressed me. Then again I judge from blade trinity, stealth and the underworld films. Maybe not bad actresses but bad agents?

And of course; remake. Remakes, reboots, reimaginings. We don't get anything these days that isn't a re-something or a sequel.

I don't know if you ever saw A Scanner Darkly, but that was based on a novel written by Philip K. Dick, who also wrote a short story that was the basis for Total Recall. Normally I don't read science fiction but his books are usually great. A friend of mine saw TR and liked it, but I didn't ask her why or get her to elaborate much.

I wish people would stop making sequels to everything. Like there being four Pirates of the Caribbean movies--people need to learn to quit when they're ahead.

Not seen that, Just the original Total Recall and Blade Runner so far as PKD adaptions go.

Sadly I had read Do Androids dream of electic sheep? before seeing blade runner. So I as always spent the entire time noting the differences between the two versions. (and boy there are a lot of them)
