Considering they took some of Ron's best moments away from him... I'm glad if they did this.

I don't know the film well enough to know if that's true but I can imagine it.

TL;DR but there's a great fic I've read that has Ron/Hermione as a side pairing and basically Ron's the stay at home dad while the kids are small and Hermione's continuing to climb the ministry ladder, as it were. It makes perfect sense for their relationship to me and everyone's happy. The idea that Hermione needs someone as driven as she is seems silly to me.

Yeah both of those certainly fit with my head-canon for Ron.

JKR says he ends working at the joke shop right? Depending what he does to help George out that could fit around taking care of kids.

Definitely plausible he would stop Auroring when Hermione got pregnant.

I can see this being plausible because Ron doesn't want to do too much anyway. He's always the one to forget homework and not do any research. I like the idea of Hermione being part of a power-couple but I've never pictured her other half in that scenario being Ron.

that's a bit of a generalization and not really fair.

Ron got the same OWL grades as Harry (maybe except DA)

and in POA he worked hard collecting information to help Buckbeak's appeal trial:

"Malfoy's dad frightened the Committee into it," said Hermione, wiping her eyes. "You know what he's like. They're a bunch of doddery old fools, and they were scared. There'll be an appeal, though, there always is. Only I can't see any hope... Nothing will have changed."
"Yeah, it will," said Ron fiercely. "You won't have to do all the work alone this time, Hermione. I'll help."

The black-mustached man was fingering something in his belt; Harry looked and saw that he was running one broad thumb along the blade of a shining axe. Ron opened his mouth to say something, but Hermione nudged him hard in the ribs and jerked her head toward the entrance hall.

“Why’d you stop me?” said Ron angrily as they entered the Great Hall for lunch. “Did you see them? They’ve even got the axe ready! This isn’t justice!”

I'm not going to go into shipping arguments because i don't want drama, but generalizing Ron as lazy or incapable of doing serious work is unfair.

Plus shipping preferences aside, Hermione doesn't really value knowledge above things like being understanding or supportive.

regardless of who we both think Hermione should be with, by her own words, intellectual superiority doesn't seem to be the deciding factor.

I never said he wasn't smart. I just said he didn't want to do anything. There's a difference between lazy and stupid. Throughout the series, with the exception of a few crucial moments that really mattered to him, for the most part Ron did the bare minimum, especially when it came to academics. Not saying it's a good or bad thing. It could be argued that he's smarter than Harry in some ways because he puts in less effort and gets the same results. And he had aptitude in areas that Harry and Hermione couldn't begin to fathom because he's a strategist.

I've seem All HP movies more times that I can count, specially the Romione scenes, and I can confirm this does indeed happen in the actual movie.

and it made me really happy!

(althought I'm of the opinion that despite Kloves being a biased self-interested pieced of turd, Ron did got to be awesome a lot, even if not as much or just as the books.

but he did shine usually in more subtle ways, that sadly a lot of people dont appreciate because they're fixated on what they took out instead of what they kept/preserved.
