Sometimes when I'm in that situation I have a hard time deciding what parts of the story are necessary and what parts become too much, which is when I find another set of eyes to be useful. A lot of the time I'm just lazy and edit my work by myself, but it can be useful in situations like this. i. e. not being able to see the forest for the trees.
