It's Been A Long Week.

Well my ISP finally decided I could look on facebook again today after two days on inexplicable not working. So hurrah. Now I get to bore you with Real Life stuff.



Anyway had a bit of long week this week. Even though I had my last exam friday, last week. I had interviews on monday and tuesday. Which involved like all of them seem to quite a long travel on the train to get there.

Well the interview on Monday didn't go well. Didn't have experience in the software they wanted but then I never claimed to, so I can only guess they didn't actually look at the CVs before sending out the interview invites.

But the good news is it doesn't matter. Because the company that i went to an interview with the week before made me an offer.  So hurrah, I didn't have to go to the Tuesday interview, which was good because it was like a 4 1/2 hour journey to even get down there.

Then of  course I had to figure out start dates and most importantly where i'm going to live but I fought a couple renting out their spare room in the company just 15-20 minute walk from my new work place. So I went out to meet them yesterday and it seems... ok. I liked the place at the time liked it at the time but when i got home was i was worried if it was really big enough for three people and how it'd all work out. But they've offered me to room and the only other place I've seen was, more expensive in rent, in the next town over and owned by a landlord who planned to move to ireland in six weeks, not to mention being a loft room i could barely stand in.

So all week i've been sporadic nervous about finding this place and the prospects of moving and working, just when I was hoping to kick back and relaxing. Hopefully its more or less sorted now.

I'm just worried what with the going from the lifestyle of lazy student to working full time. I'm going to be so busy i'm not going to have time to work on my fic for harryhetbigbang cause that's been going nowhere recently. I'd resolved to try and do a Harry/Cho figure the basic plot I'd worked out for a while back but all my inspiration for it seems to have gone down the toilet.

Anyway, got a couple of weeks till the prospective move and work start date, so I'll have to see what I can get done between now and then...

Congratulations on finding a job! I don't know how well the economy is doing in the UK, but in the US that's a pretty rare thing these days, lol.

Since we're not nailed down to specific pairings for the fest, maybe you could work with a different female character? I guess that's an option to think about.

Yeah we're officially in a double dip recession now. So I feel pretty lucky at the minute. Still I think computing is still pretty buoyant as a sector and the university I went to is renowned for having good links the industry a big part of the reason I chose to go there. There were quite a lot of placements on offer but then there were a lot of people going for them as well.


Yeah I guess I may have to. Pansy's the closest I got to a go to gal for this kind of thing but I think alot of people seemed to be writing her. I'd quite like to write Susan Bones, Katie Bell or a Patil, though my preference for minor characters is good for giving me some room to do what i want with the characters they're also the kind of people i'm not sure i can jump into a 10,000 word fic for them off the bat.

I know what you mean. Hopefully things won't be so economically difficult by the time I get out of school. If not, maybe I'll just decide to get a PhD instead of a job, haha.

I noticed that about Pansy as well--it actually made me rethink using her, but the plot I have set up wouldn't work as well with a different character. I always liked Parvati in canon, or maybe you could do something with Luna? Her personality can be hard to capture, though. When I'm trying to warm up to a character or a pairing I've never written before sometimes I write something small (a drabble, a 1,000 word piece) and just experiment. That might help generate some ideas.

I really like Harry/Luna, I've probably said it before but its the only non-canon ship I read in fic and think this could have/should have been what happened in canon.

That said, there's no way I could write Luna and portray her well.

Even though I love Harry/Ginny, I wish Harry/Luna had happened as well.

She is hard to write though. I've only done it once, but that fic is sitting in my "work in progress" folder on my laptop and I'll probably never finish it.

Urgh. Harry/Ginny. Though to be fair, re-reading HBP has made it seem less out of the blue. Still I dislike the execution of H/G than the concept. Though Ginny is more of convention love interest than Luna would have been.

There's one bit though that always bugs me, Ginny's line about never giving up on Harry and always fancying him. Seems like a step back for her. First she's shy and fancies Harry and then gets over it and proceeds to grow up and be awesome in books 4 and 5 and then in HBP with realise its all an act to gain his attention. Urgh. Much better if she really had lost the crush and then fallen for the real him all over again.

I guess I sort of hoped/assumed H/G in earlier books, so when it became canon in HBP I was less surprised. I really started to like Ginny's character in OotP, but I agree on the always liking Harry thing. That did a disservice to her character, in my opinion. But since I really like both characters seeing them together is like an extension of that.
