harry100's Prompt #534: "Solemn"
- - -
"Thanks for coming Mr Potter, have a seat," said the Headmistress of James' primary school. She always felt uncomfortable dealing with the man, he was pleasant, but solemn and he seemed to see right through you like an X-ray.
Harry Potter sat.
"What seems to be the problem, Ms Gibson?" Harry asked.
"It's Mr Williams. He and James were having an argument. James was fighting and claimed he hadn't started it and he was protecting a classmate but since Mr Williams hadn't seen that, he couldn't let James off. James got angry... And then…"
"And then?"
"His wig was gone."
"James stole his wig?"
Ms Gibson frowned. "No, no, we never found it on him. It's just… gone."
"And Mr Williams blamed James?"
"Well, they were arguing at the time you see…"
"Yes, I see." Harry said giving her a look. "So are you suggesting that James made it disappear?"
"Well… no, that'd be silly wouldn't it? But Mr Williams insisted… and then there's the matter of the fighting."
"I shall speak with him," Harry promised.
Harry maintained his solemn demeanour out of the women's office and out of the school, then he leant on a wall, heaving with laughter.
