Ginny Potter awoke with a jolt. She frowned. The baby monitor was silent but the bed next to her was empty. That wasn't unusual it and of itself but Harry was supposed to be home this weekend.

She checked the clock it was far too early to be awake on one of her few days off. Then the door opened with a bang and Harry strode in with an overloaded tray trembling in his hands.

"Harry, what's…" she began.

"Happy Mother's Day!" Harry said, with a tentative smile. "Courtesy of James, of course."

Ginny started. She was aware of the date but somehow she hadn't realised it now applied to her.

The tray on her lap had cereal and milk of course, as well as toast and tea, and croissants with jam, and even more. She realised the tray had been magically expanded as there was also eggs, beans, sausage, pretty much the Full English in fact.

While Ginny had been taking this in, Harry had waved his wand and a ludicrous amount of flowers appeared about the room.

"Also from James?" Ginny said, a smile playing around her mouth. At Harry's nod she continued: "He must have been saving up his pocket money."

"That's right," Harry said. "Umm… do you like them?"

"Of course!" Ginny replied. "I really do!"

"Well… good." Harry said and disappeared from the room, appearing again with James in his arms.

"Hello, James!" Ginny said brightly.

"Say Hell to Mummy!" Harry said, waving one of James' arms for him. "Hello Mummy, Happy Mother's day. thank you for everything!"

They usually never mucked about with James like that or did silly voices for but Ginny giggled anyway.

"Harry…" She said gently. "You never did mother's day as a kid did you?"

"Well, no. Dudley did the bare minimum and Aunt Petunia adored him for it. I was of course not expected to contributed. She was my aunt."

"You're doing great sweetie," Ginny said, "but you have given me more food than I could possibly eat. Do you want to help out?"

Harry conjured another tray with an empty plate and sat down next to her to steal some breakfast.

Between them, James Sirius Potter, not quite one year old in age, gurgled happily and mostly oblivious to what was happening around him. Little did he know the standard his father had set for future Mother's days.
