Su'kal plotline was fine but wow, that was so bad science to explain the burn, ah well.

Doug Jones and Su'Kal's actor were both great though. Su'Kal's as well impressed, having to be maladjusted but sympathetic through all the make-up as well.

I talked a lot more about it in my review of the final two episodes but yes, the effectiveness of warships and groups seems very dependent on the needs of the plot.
