At this point, I want to like Disco more than I actually like it. It's not done anything wrong aside from not really being how I think it should be. The burn is not making more sense to me as time goes and they went to Vulcan, met romulans and no mention of their black hole warp cores. I guess I just have to accept that they used dilithium too according to the writers.

The advance of the main plot feels glacial at this point, is that just me? Hopefully the second part of the series really starts to move. But they are trying. they are trying to highlight Star Trekky values of tolerance and cooperation and talking it out. plus all the scenes of crewly comraderies and so on. They using a lot more continuity, last season with TOS, this one with TNG, DS9 and PIC.

They are very clearly trying. I don't know it's not clicking with me. And this ramble isn't explaining it very well.

I feel kind of all over the place with this show. Sometimes when it's firing on all cylinders it's like "ah, they've finally figured out how to write this!" and then they turn around and do something that makes no sense to me again. I agree with you that it's definitely not a lack of effort. I just get this weird feeling like I live in a slightly different parallel universe from the writing team, where they have a concept of what good writing is that will never quite align with mine.

Writing, and just how Star Trek tech works/should be/what's cool. As I may have mentioned once or twice, lol.

I think every time I talk about an episode with pauraque, I find my like/dislike meter veering very suddenly which seems strange for a season. I found it interesting what they were trying to bring to the table re: new Vulcan, but it felt like it was just there for that one episode and we might not hear about it ever again!

I guess the idea is to give us a big overview of the future as it were, but it does feel that way!
