hp_nextgen100. Follow on to Heart To Heart, itself a follow on to a James Sirius/Dominique series I need to name/tag.
The silence across the breakfast table lengthened. Albus hadn’t quite admitted to fancying their cousin, Roxanne but his look was quite eloquent.
James couldn’t help it. The chuckle bubbled up out of him. Al’s eyes shrank to emerald slits as he glared. James’ waved his hand apologetically.
“Not laughing at you and Roxy, mate! Just…” He forced out, stifling another giggle. “You’re jealous of me? And to think all those years I was envious of you.”
“What?”
“All that attention, all those chats with Dad you had? I was green as anything,” James said.
Al’s grin blossomed wide and toothy.
James waved his wand and the coffeepot floated over and re-filled his, suddenly happier, Brother’s cup.
“Now about Roxy,” James said. “You’ve got the order all wrong. It’s dating then flat. Not the other way round!”
Al’s face fell again.
“Well nothing to do now but ask her out as soon as possible. And unambiguously, dude.”
“It’s not that easy.”
“I didn’t say it would be. But she’s not going to just fall into your arms, bro. I though honesty was your House’s thing anyway.”
“We’re not at school,” Al said, “I just hope Scorpius isn’t planning the same thing.”
It was hard not to laugh in his brother’s face again. Only a couple of years ago this had been him, full of teenage melodrama and relationship angst. He’d pined after Dom for years before asking her.
“Just means you really do have to ask her quickly.” James said. “She’ll say yes. Or not and you get over it. It’s like ripping off a plaster.”
There was another long silence and then:
“You were really jealous of me?”
“You’re not letting that go are you?” James said. “Forget it and we can get back to hating on spoiled baby Lilly”
